Enjoyed a great family Sunday lunch at The Bothy recently.
There was live music when we arrived which added to the relaxed atmosphere.
Really enjoyed the Scallop & Asparagus risotto and the Chorizo and potato broth with Cod and asparagus was great, followed by a very indulgent chocolate tart with tangy orange sorbet.
Very reasonable prices and the serving staff were all great, recommending the dishes and the wines.
We hired a private room for Christmas Day Lunch, it seemed a good idea at the time. The room itself was quite nice with a large TV and plenty of room for children to move around. However, getting served with drinks and food was far too slow, and there was no communication about any possible reason. So it felt a bit strained. The BIG letdown was the food though. I ordered the vegetarian option and couldn't eat it, it was inedible. I wasn't sure what I had ordered, even if it was vegetarian. The gravy was the only taste I could make out. It wasn't just inedible, it was also cold. Even the dessert was inedible, it was far too rich tasting. One word sums up the food, disgusting.
I am allergic to MSG and felt thankful I didn't attempt to eat the gravy ensemble as it wouldn't have ended well.
Thank you for a wonderful private dining experience to celebrate with family and friends our daughter's evening before her wedding event. We enjoyed the eclectic menu and the service was attentive and lovely. The private dining room is perfect to enjoy an unencumbered time together. We didn't feel rushed and felt taken care of. A lot of thought and preparation went into the menu selection.
Grou[ of 6 of us stopped in on a very slow Sunday night. Our junior server was clearly new. Very friendly, but not very knowledgeable. Not her fault, and she did the best she could. Our main server also was the bartender. He definitely should have known better. Extremely slow, not knowledgeable about the food or the drinks, and messed up our order a couple of times. While the food was OK, the overall expereicne was not. Cannot recommend this place, at least when the primary staff is clearly not on duty. It’s a shame too, as this has the potential to be a great restaurant.
Went with a large company group. We had to book, select our meals and pay weeks in advance. Don't bother mentioning allergies because the message won't get through. We were booked for 1pm and our first meals didn't arrive until after 2pm. Meals were still arriving at 2.30. Desserts were served at around 2.50. I hope smaller groups ordering off the menu get better service.
Visited the bothy last weekend. I found the service very slow. The food was not what I expected. Left feeling hungry and paid more than I expected for such a poor meal. I spoke to manager and was not very forthcoming regarding my complaints …
Slow slow slow. Went in on a Tuesday lunchtime and the place was very quiet. Ordered drinks - tea, half a lager and some water for the table. At the same time we ordered 2 soups and main courses. The waitress didn't seem to know what she was doing and it took them over 10 minutes to bring a carafe of water to the table. It was only then we were told there was no gas for the lager! We waited another 5 minutes for a pot of tea. When the soup arrived it was cold, a toddler could have eaten it without issue, and the chunk of bread was stale. On sending it back we'd had enough and decided to leave. No apology offered, no acknowledgement of how dreadful the service had been, nothing, they even had the nerve to charge for the tea which we didn't drink. This can't be a serious attempt at running a restaurant, I would say it's more likely a money laundering exercise. Dreadful, and will never go back. The couple at the table along from us waited even longer than us for a sandwich and had also gotten up to leave. Poor show.
The decor was warm and welcoming. There was plenty of space and prompt service. The food and drinks were good but it seemed expensive for what we had. City centre parking nearby. Decent toilets - downstairs - but quite a long walk. (May be sharing with Weatherspoons.)
